Set in 1990s El Paso, Texas, Resucitó is a powerful and intimate exploration of a Mexican American Catholic community on the verge of transformation.
Texas State University School of Theatre, Dance, and Film (SoTDF) presents Resucitó, a new play written and directed by MFA candidate Robby Sciortino, April 7–12 in the Theatre Center Mainstage Theatre.
Developed alongside an ensemble of undergraduate collaborators during the summer of 2025 and later crafted into a full-length script, Resucitó now takes the stage.
Set in 1990s El Paso, Texas, Resucitó is a powerful and intimate exploration of a Mexican American Catholic community on the verge of transformation. Through the intertwined lives of young first-generation characters, the play examines the tension between tradition and self-discovery. As cultural expectations and religious doctrine collide with personal identity, this community confronts the hidden truths of their upbringing and begins to question the very foundations of the world they were taught to revere.
These young voices are compiled of Stori Silva (Marín), Amalia Cabrera (Lina), Emeli Vasquez (Mariposa), Maddy Jordan (Esme), Omar Meza (Tomás), Gabriella Velazquez (Luz), Damara Ortis (Karina), Logan McGowan (Nick), James Cazares (Julián), Abby Littrell (Lisa), and Emilio Amaya (Ignacio).
The creative team includes Scenic Designer: Emily Cook; Lighting Designer: Kate Gonzales; Sound Designer: Scott Murdock; Costume Designer: Nikki Hernandez; Projections Designer: Andre Rodriguez; Technical Director: Colin Shay; and Production Stage Manager: Sarah Marek. Additionally, this production’s music direction is led by Stori Silva, with folklórico choreography by Omar Rodriguez.
As an original MFA production created by Texas State students, Resucitó highlights the School of Theatre, Dance, and Film’s commitment to new play development and student-driven storytelling. Resucitó also coincides with Graduate Student Appreciation Week (GSAW), celebrating the creative scholarship and artistic leadership of Texas State’s graduate students.
